Transmission of the herpes virus usually occurs through vaginal, anal or oral to genital sexual contact. Inanimate objects such as a toilet seat are unlikely to cause any transmission of the virus.
The herpes virus is very fragile and highly sensitive to environmental conditions. As such, it cannot survive for long periods of time outside the body.
