Herpes is spread by direct skin to skin contact such as kissing and sexual intercourse.
Genital herpes (HSV-2) can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected blister or cold sore usually through sexual intercourse. It can also be transmitted when there are no signs or symptoms present.
Oral Herpes or cold sores (HSV-1) are usually spread to the genital area by oral sex (mouth to genital contact).
