This organization was founded in 1981 by Robert Randall. The Alliance for Cannabis Therapeutics is a nonprofit organization seeking to end the federal prohibition of cannabis (marijuana) in medicine. ACT works for fundamental reform of current regulations which prohibit the use of cannabis in medicine and inhibit neutral study of the plant's therapeutic properties. ACT concentrates solely on the question of marijuana's medical utility and adopts no policy regarding the nonmedical use of cannabis.
