CHAPTER 4 CONTROL OF ALCOHOL
In this chapter, the relation between the type of state and formal social control of alcohol is in focus. Three aspects of this relationship will be examined: first, state regulation of trade in and consumption of alcohol, secondly, the appearance of temperance movements and their influence on the alcohol question, and thirdly the development of care and cure of alcoholics. The chapter closes with a comparison of these developments in relation to the contextual differences as described in the first section of this chapter.
