Drug Abuse
Dear Colleagues,
The Global Fund is a proud supporter of the 22nd International Harm Reduction Conference in Beirut (3rd to 7th April 2011). In addition to sponsoring the ‘Dialogue Space’ at the conference, we have also helped to organize a range of activities that we would like to bring to your attention:
Monday 4th April, 12:30 – 13:30
Introducing MENAHRA’s New Global Fund Grant (Dialogue Space)
In 2010, the Global Fund approved a US$ 8 million proposal from the Middle East and North Africa Harm Reduction Association (MENAHRA). This session will introduce the new proposal, which is due to start in 2011. It will describe the activities that are planned and encourage discussion about how best to strengthen civil society and harm reduction in the region.
Tuesday 5th April, 13:30-14:00
Equity, Human Rights and the Global Fund (Dialogue Space)
As part of discussions around its 2011-2016 Strategy, the Global Fund is working closely with its partners and stakeholders to improve its performance in terms of equitable service access and human rights. This informal session will allow participants to contribute to these efforts and find out more about what the Global Fund is doing.
Wednesday 6th April, 11:00-12:30
Impacts of Global Fund investments in harm reduction: building capacity and promoting change (Major Session)
This session will provide a detailed assessment of Global Fund investments in harm reduction and the impacts that these are having. The latest data on Global Fund support for harm reduction will be presented, alongside trends in country demand for funding – building on data presented at the 2010 conference. Examples from three countries that receive Global Fund support will be showcased: Moldova, Indonesia and Ukraine.
Wednesday 6th April, 14:00-15:00
Meet the Leaders: The Global Fund and Partners (Dialogue Space)
The Global Fund is a unique global partnership between governments, donors, multilateral organizations, civil society, the private sector and affected communities. This session will allow participants to pose their questions to senior staff from the organization and some of its partners.
Thursday 7th April, 09:00-10:30
Economics and effectiveness (Major Session)
This session will contain a presentation from the Global Fund on our investments in harm reduction within prison settings.
We look forward to seeing you in Beirut!
