Introduction

Drug Abuse

This handbook contains information that might be useful if you’ve got, or are thinking about, a methadon prescription. It is written for people with long-term scripts and for people who are coming off.

If you don’t want to read it cover to cover you can use it to look things up

However everyone is different and a booklet is no substitute for a drug worker, so if you can’t find the information you need, want to know more about something or have any questions or worries you should be able to talk them over with your doctor or drug worker.

The information is mainly about oral methadone although injectable methadone is the same drug - just delivered by a different route - so most of the information applies just the same. Unfortunately there isn’t room for information about things like injection technique and coming off injectables - you should be able to get this from your doctor or drug worker.
