Dear Student,

This study will investigate some of the issues affecting American .ollege students. It is especially concerned with patterns of irug use and changing values. The study is being conducted at many colleges in the New York City area.

Your opinions and experiences will contribute greatly to a better inderstanding of drug use and non-use, a subject of growing inter?.st and controversy in our society. Student opinion, as provided ny the students themselves, is essential to any reconsideration of irug policy to be made by officials in colleges and society.

Some of the questions deal with behavior that is considered private, wrong, or even illegal. In order to encourage free response, the study has taken several steps to ensure your complete anonymity.

1. You are requested not to put your name or other identification on either the questionnaire or the ANSWER SHEET.
2. All answers will be marked on an ANSWER SHEET. An optical scanning machine will convert your answers into punched cards. The data will be used only for statistical purposes.
3. You are asked to fill out the questionnaire voluntarily. You may choose not to participate and hand in a blank ANSWER SHEET.
4. In the final report, there will be no identification of the classes, individual teachers, administrators, or the institutions (colleges, organizations, etc.) which take part in this study.

It is hoped that you will enjoy filling out the questionnaire and that the results will prove useful to college students.
